The demand for real-time visualization of complex data sets is already well established. However more recenly, industrial users wish to make use of tools to aid in the presentation of cmplex information without making the purchase of an expensive, dedicated visualization system. PIPADS - the parallel image processing and display systems is architecture targetted at supporting real-time image processing taks as low-cost. The machine uses an inexpensive semi-custom SIMD which, through supporting scan-line based algorithms can produce megapixel perspective views of terrains in rel-time. This paper presents the constrains placed upon the SIMD array, and details the how to the architecture and implementation minimise hardware, time and volumetric costs.
