Abstract- The descruction and loss lives as a result of volcano eruption in the developing countries are relatively high. To address this emergent problem, the design of remote early warning system that meets the needs of the communities with limited resources and undeveloped communication infrastructure is needed. Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta, Indonesia has the disaster history that affects in the social-economics aspect for its surrounding inhabitants. The existing work in early warning system for cold lava avalanche needs improvement, in the part of the part of the oprational cost, the sensing capability and the power consumption. The wireless sensor networks as the core of early warning system design is proposed. The aspects of economy, power consumption and scenario to save lives are emphasized. Te design of the system is expected cloud be on of many ways for arlerting the community about the possibility of disaster that will ocur. Especially for cold lava avalanche, the system can precisely detect the location that predicted will be struck. There are most common rivers that cold lava will be stored and forwarded to the lower state or place. In this paper, the deployment sensor noders are designed to fulfill the needs of the sensing cold lava avalanche in the Kali Gendol, Kali Kuning and Kali Boyong at Sleman Regency
