Internet connectivity becomes important not only for the academic community but also for users in business and industry in the developing coun- tries. In many countries the public switched tele- phone network PSTN is unable to support even low speed data communication. In such countries innovative solutions have to be devised to meet the unique local situations. Recent developments in wireless technology for cellular and personal communications help us in implementing cost ef- fective solutions. Some possibilities with future directions are discussed.
