Existing and future planned mobile radio networks will enable a continuous and continent-wide communication area coverage. Beside the transmission of compressed digitized speech a real-time data transmission up to rates of 10 Kb/s will be possible, being sufficient for many applications (e.g. in telemetry and remote control). LEO-and GEO-satellite networks will allow further a world covering communication between mobile or fixed stations. Concrete applicatons have been identified.
