MODSIM II is a general purpose, modular, high level, object-oriented programming language which provides support for discrete event simulation and interactive windows-based graphics. The object-oriented features include polymorphism, synchronous and asynchronous method activation and full multiple inheritance. The syntax and structure of the language is similar to Modula-2 with its concepts of definition and implementation modules, strong typing and data abstraction. At the end of 1989 we became the first commercial European user of the MODSIM II Language. This paper discusses our experiences with, and impressions of, the language, and identifies the lessons learnt in our first year of its use.
