This paper provides a summary of the principal ad- vances of the Enlaces Project in its second year of official operation. The objective of the Enlaces Project is to set up a network of educational establishments -using mainly mul- timedia and telecommunications technology- in order to analyze the benefits, contents, costs and replicability of ini- tiatives involving educational computing. The project in- corporates mechanisms for evaluating its impact and prefe- rably seeks to determine the roles of computer technology on those schools with the fewest resources. In 1993 the interconnection of 31 educational esta- blishments was achieved. Additionally, a solid base was established to allow for decentralized growth in 1994, at which time it is hoped that some 60 establishments will be added to the network. The schools receive equipment (computers, printers, modem), educational software, initial training and ongoing support by means of the network, in person (visits) and support materials (texts, multimedia based self training software and videos).
