Privacy preservation is an essential prerequisite to the process of data mining as it maintains the privacy of the data. various method such as association rule mining, k-anonymity, data hiding etc. have been suggested for preserving the privacy of data. in this paper, we suggest privacy preservation strategy based on the method of moment. using this technique, a time sequence can be mapped to a point in the 2-D plane. this point represents the centre of gravity or controid of the area under the curve generated by the time sequence. this approach is promising as the comparative attributes of the data are maintaned in the moment representing them. hence, by replacing the time sequence by its centroid, we eliminate the need for processing the time sequence. this technique can be applied to static time sequence as well as data streams.
