Web crawlers have been widely used in public information collection, discovering the freferences of the majority of internet users. however, the web content gathered by crawlers does not contrain the geographical property of the web browsers, unless the web page hots are willing to open the server traces which record the access IP addresses. in this paper, a new approach to capture hot even in cyberspaces is presented. by deploying an optical spiliter and packet filter equipment on the internet portal of a certain geographical area, the group behavior of the internet users inside the concerned region can be timely acquired with the help of a well-defined internet-hot-word captor. its prototype with the name 'campus vane', has been use in 3 different colleges. we use one of them as a case study to demonstrate that the hot web event concerned by campus people can be captured timely.
