The context for object-oriented project management is set by introducing a perspective that includes iterative/incremental development, reuse, an understanding of the proximity of the problem space and solution space in object-oriented systems, and rapid prototyping. The development structure of object-oriented projects will be presented as well as the development phases and management concern by phase. A case study of a prototyping group is included, as well as additional case studies of several object-oriented projects. Additionally, performance metrics, training ideas, cost estimations and Functional Point Analysis are presented, as well as project planning, tracking and control, selecting appropriate applications for object-oriented technology, and techniques for risk analysis and risk management for object-oriented systems development. Issues of the impact on organizations of the introduction of object-oriented technology will be introduced and discussed.
